'RAW' Comments, Quotes & feedback

You have heard the hype from us as workers about ED RAW, promoting inclusion, striving to improve overall well being for all residents of our Community.....But, what do service users really think about our fledgling project.....See for yourself....

"After doing the first aid course my family would now actually want to do a full first aid course because of the great way the course was delivered and the support from the Red Cross staff and ED RAW staff. We feel confident enough to be able to learn first aid. Our disabilities are not an issue as we are keen to learn and the staff were keen in wanting to learn someone who has a disability like blindness or autism which means totally rethinking the way you might normally teach but the staff were willing to teach and that is a barrier taken down which has put us off in the past. I think with ED RAW inclusion means inclusion opening doorways and ripping down barriers and bringing the whole community together". (RA Shotton - after First aid training session March 2013)

"Another fantastic day and everyone enjoyed bandaging each other up its something everyone should have a little first aid and with the help of e.d.raw this is able to happen three generations of my family are using  e.d.raw and the support you get is great they are first class and bringing people together and also having fun while learning vital things thanks edraw" (PS Seaham - after first aid session March 2013)

"This group has brought a breath of fresh air to Easington Colliery....been living here for 25 years and never in all that time have I seen such a community gathering....people I've never met before....congratulations guys (thats everybody who donates their time and effort to making this a nice place to live again) and thank you..." (KS Easington - after 'Me & me Mam & me Dad - Family interaction group February 2013)

"Got to say you got something special, for becka to badger is it on today she loves coming and has a great time lovely for us adults to have a chin wag with friendly faces keep up the great work." (MB Peterlee - after Family fun day February 2013)

"Really enjoyed it & took a much better insight and awareness about drug abuse away with me  tonight. Very informative, thank you!" (TT Blackhall - after drug awareness session January 2013)

Fantastic Family First Aid Day!

Thanks to everyone who attended our first Family First Aid Day and for   making it a "bleeding"  success. We were privileged  to have two fantastic trainers but the success was also down to the enthusiasm and interaction of all those taking part.  Our willing volunteer (victim) seemed to enjoy being gashed, burnt and unconscious on several occasion throughout the morning.
ED-RAW would like to send a very big thank you to Mel from the British Red Cross for her amazing talent as a make up artist, it was so realistic.... Also a big thanks to Pauline for her very relaxed and informative training delivery and motivational skills which really was everything we hoped for and more...

We hope to run further courses in the near future following the resounding success of today's course and the recent Drug Awareness course. We hope to run both again soon for those who missed out this time around. However, we hope to announce an Alcohol Awareness and a Sexual Health awareness course in the coming months. Remember, you the Service Users decided what training you would like and ED-RAW will strive to provide it for you.

Any ideas, then let us know? Contact Carole Williams and lets hear you RAW!!!

Team Durham Activities day!

I am so excited!!!! and I hope you will be as well!!! In conjunction with Durham University Community & Sports Department we are over the moon to be able to offer free taster sessions at their new state of the art facilities at Maiden Castle in Durham.

This fantastic centre is home to one of only 3, YES 3 indoor rowing facilities in the Country and it has to be seen to be believed.... What a great memory to share with others just to say you "gave that a go"! Look at the pic above its out of this world and you don't get wet.... well technically!!! Along with the rowing we are being offered taster sessions in fencing... now don't be clever and mention 4 by 2 or any other joinery phrase you may know!!!

This is the real deal.. the full masks... the fencing swords..... plastic tips to begin with and for health and safety reasons, obviously!... Finally, we can rounded off with a relaxing game of new age curling before we retire to the newly refurbished cafe for feet  up a cuppa and a cake!!!!!

I cant thank Emma Hall-Craggs and all the wonderful university staff  and students who are assisting with this pilot scheme enough. Their continued help and commitment to help us make ED RAW blossom is invaluable!!! Watch out for future partnership working with the university and other creative & supportive organisations in the North East via our blog, Twitter and Facebook. So what do you need if you fancy a go??? Just let us know and we'll sign you up. We can take anyone from age 14 years old upwards and parents if you don't want to go, give me a shout and you know any excuse for a bit of  daft time.... But seriously lets look again at the 5 ways to wellbeing..... all covered by this activity....

If you're not registered with EDRAW, no problem....Just contact us and get registered.

Empowering & Supporting the Community

ED Raw is an unique service which is devoted to identify and support  vulnerable people within Easington District.
We believe in breaking down barriers by playing an active part in the Community, enabling us to identify those most at risk.
Our dedicated and experienced support team work with locality based trustees and committed volunteers to provide support and activities to improve the Social, Physical, Mental and Emotional well-being of everyone in our community.
We nurture the 5 steps to well-being and incorporate them in all we strive to achieve.

"Lets talk about Autism"

Hi to all ED RAW members. Have you or any one you know been affected by Autism? If you have then you will know what a complex condition it is to live with and cope with. Many families in our area have a child or relative on the autistic spectrum and we would like to bring these families together to share experiences and ideas and to offer peer support from people who DO know what you are talking about. ED RAW will pilot our "Let’s Talk about Autism" course in the near future. Is anyone on our site interested in becoming part of this community support group? As we believe that connecting people with others is a positive step in promoting mental and social well-being we are confident that if you would like to be part of this Easington locality group this could really offer you important emotional support. Let me know if you have any comments or would like to receive further details about this group. Look forward to hearing from you. Carole Williams project coordinator.

Family Film Club "FRANKENWEENIE"

We are delighted to be showing the new Tim Burton family film Frankenweenie next weekend. An absolute classic by the great man and to be honest will appeal to adults and children alike. A bit of a parody on the old Frankenstein film... Sparky the dog dies and his loving owner tries to bring him to life the only way he knows how!!!! Suffice to say its a great watch... We have another art competition for all the kids, with colouring and drawing for the younger ones and I would like this month for all of our talented children to design me a monster animal!!!!! Give it some thought kids and as usual there will be prizes for the most unique entry....Looking forward to seeing you all there... Carole Williams Project Coordinator.
